I’ve always been into the movies probably a little to much. I’ve seen a lot of movies some good and some bad. I’ve loved the surprise of new ideas and being engrossed into the emotions and perspective of the characters that shine through the screen. In the hope to experience the best, I’ve decided to watch the top 250 movies of all time decided by IMDB.
Perusing through the list I’ve seen some of the movies already. I was pretty surprised by seeing Godfather and Godfather Part 2 so high on the list. There are a wide range of movies of different genres and from different eras. Many of the movies are considered to be genre defining. If any movie is part of a series, I plan to see the other movies in the series as well.
A second close goal is to obtain a physical copy of each of the movies I watch. I’ve been increasingly frustrated with how much I’ve spent on movies and tv shows on services like Vudu, Google Play Store, or iTunes without having the ability to watch my movies at without having to use their service. It makes me feel as though I don’t own the movie. The quality is also lower that if I bought the physical media as well. Lastly there are movies that don’t appear on any streaming service from time to time. Starting this collection is a way to take back ownership of my media and be able to watch my content at a much higher quality.
My goal doesn’t have a timeline and is meant to mostly be an enjoyable activity. I suspect some of the movies will take a lot of patience to get through. I’m pretty excited about both new goals. I’m not looking forward to collecting more plastic, but the collection of movies that allows me to experience different perspectives whenever I want is fairly enticing.
